THE PRICE OF CREATIVITY

INSIDE IRELANDS BASIC INCOME FOR THE ARTS SCHEME

This radio documentary examines Ireland's Basic Income for the Arts scheme, exploring the gap between how it has been celebrated in public and how it is experienced by many of the artists it was designed to support.

Through interviews with artists and arts workers, the piece looks at the realities of precarious creative work and asks whether the scheme addresses financial insecurity or simply manages it. It explores who is able to access the programme, who is left out, and how requirements around eligibility, reporting, and ongoing assessments shape the relationship between artists and the government.

This podcast report was produced as part of my undergraduate studies in Global Media and Drama at the University of Galway.
