All Eyes on Europe: The Rise of Deepfake Media

They look real. They sound real. They are not.

This video investigates the growing impact of deepfakes and asks what their rise could mean for democracy, privacy, and online safety.

Alongside explaining how deepfake technology works, the piece examines its real world consequences, from election misinformation to the rise of non consensual deepfake pornography. The report also considers the gendered harms of AI generated abuse and questions whether Ireland's current laws are equipped to respond to these rapidly evolving technologies.

All Eyes on Europe: The Rise of Deepfakes was produced as part of my undergraduate studies in Global Media and Drama at the University of Galway.
